There is one counterpoint to mull, however. There may be a better cloud-based office productivity suite than Google Docs already, at least for some users. “Zoho is robust and it has a good developer platform,” said Vatsal Sonecha, a VP at online security firm TriCipher. The Zoho difference is that under its umbrella are many applications -- online meetings, CRM, a DIY wiki, in addition to the core office productivity apps (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation). Zoho, which prices applications per user, (typically around $12 per seat, per month) launched its Web-based apps in 2005 and although Google Docs gets the loud buzz, Zoho has a loyal fan base that insists it’s worth a look before plunging ahead with Google Docs.

It’s hard to explain what all Zoho is capable of. If you’re looking for a more Microsoft Word type layout to editing documents/spreadsheets online then you definitely want to check out Zoho. Google Docs is great for quick and simple editing but if you want to do anything special or in a particular way I highly recommend Zoho. There are A LOT more features to Zoho than document editing though; they have everything from email to an online CRM to Editing tools.

Zoho, a competitor to Google Docs, offers many of the same features, including simultaneous collaboration between users, and also features various plug-ins for Microsoft Word, Excel, and OpenOffice. Additionally, Zoho has additional applications for database management, reporting, project management, customer relationship management, wiki, chat, and more in its suite, making it one of the most robust online office suits available. Zoho Applications has an impressive collection of well integrated applications. Aside from the core docs, spreadsheet, and slide shows, you get the following: email, calendar, planner, chat, online meetings like Webex, database, project management, billing and invoicing, CRM, and a bunch of other applications. (Some of the business apps have a cost associated, but nothing compared to what their competition charges.) If all of that is not enough, they even integrate seamlessly with third party applications. This is about as close to Microsoft Office as you will find anywhere.

Zoho, an Indian company formally known as AdventNet Inc., offers much more than just web based email — it takes the fight straight to Google with a comprehensive on-line office suit comprising word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, note-taking, wikis, CRM, project management, invoicing and other applications.

It's web-mail that I'm interested in, so can't comment on their other products, but I do have to say that I found Zoho Mail perfect for my purposes. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and it's proven to be fast and robust, and I have no hesitation in saying that I love it! It's a joy to use.

Zoho also appears to be ad-free, for the moment at least, which is really refreshing.

The basic services are all free and are perfect for most small, on-line businesses. Upgrades to more robust access are cheap, so creating on-line collaborations with multiple remote stakeholders is low-cost and easy.

One of the best suite of collaboration and small business tools online is Zoho. Whether you are looking for a client relationship management (CRM) solution, or a project management tool, or a basic human resources information system (HRIS), creating online reports or database-driven applications, Zoho is one set of solutions that no small business should over-look.

While many of the solutions that Zoho offers are similar to some popular products by Google (including shared documents, spreadsheets, presentations and email), Zoho is constantly developing new solutions to help small business customers, including their new Applicant Tracking System.

The range of online applications like Zoho Chat, Zoho Meetings, Zoho CRM, Zoho Writer, and so on is really rich and you must use it at least once.


Zoho Mail: Take the simplicity of Gmails interface, add the ability to have several inboxes to manager multiple accounts (not one universal one, each account gets its own inbox within the same window), no threaded emails like Gmail, unlimited storage, a good user policy, optional add-on services like a notebook and online office editor, built in chat,  a well established company, and you get Zoho Mail. Zoho Office Suite. While Google Docs is the most popular online office suite, Zoho is the best and most comprehensive set of web applications. The mobile version of the site gives you access to your word processing docs, spreadsheets, presentations, creator docs, calander and Zoho mail.

Overall, based on the description and demos I have seen, the Zoho Wiki offering looks pretty compelling for nearly any wiki based need that comes to my mind. And just like the other Zoho offerings, it feels like something you would expect from Google, in all of its Web 2.0′ish goodness.

In the end, it should be said that Zoho is also big on listening to their customers. So if you tried it and found it lacking in some area, chances are pretty solid that you will not find your comments landing on deaf ears.

The number of applications Zoho offers, from an email service to a personal wiki and a “centralized public repository” (whatever that is) is ridiculous. I’ve become a big Zoho fan recently, and it has a huge number of useful tools at your disposal.

The writer itself is excellent, with a ton of editing options organized in a way that looks much like Office 2007’s Ribbon interface. Almost anything you can do in Word can be done in Zoho, from adding a header and footer to directly posting a document to your blog.

Zoho is the most feature-complete of the Web-based applications, including Google Docs, and is incredibly easy to use. Zoho doesn’t get nearly the press Google Docs does, but I can’t see a reason not to switch to Zoho.

In the interest of full disclosure, I had seen the site before a while back, but that was before they started targeting Google. Since then, the site has acquired an interesting array of apps. They’ve got what you’d expect: email, word processing, spreadsheets, notes, and document management. But they’ve also got much more: wiki, file sharing, invoice making, database management, web collaboration, etc.

Better than what they have, though, is how it works. In fact, their word processor (Zoho Writer) puts Google Docs to shame (think: the best of Word on the web), and their document management makes far more sense. Give it a shot (ironically, you can sign in using your Google account).

Zoho.com is an integrated personal application suite with many features. The primary purpose I use Zoho for is for storing documents which has many benefits and features that Google Documents does not have. I used Google Docs for a long time but recently made the switch when Zoho Writer 2.0 was released. Aside from the great looking in-browser GUI, there are two main reasons I prefer Zoho to Google documents: 1) You can have sub-folders in folders and 2) support for .docx file although I only have one .docx document total.  I’m happy to say that all of my important documents are now kept on Zoho which I can access from anywhere.

Zoho also has extra benefits like note taking (which is something I do often), task lists, meetings, notebook and more. Zoho seems to be moving towards an all-in-one solution for cloud computing which will give them a great edge if it can be accomplished. You are able to sign-in using your Google account so there is no need to create a new account.

Google, I think you’ve met your match.

Understand, I like Google. I’ve long had a Gadget Crush on the Tmobile G1 phone. I know it’s not an iPhone, but the potential of this gizmo blows me away, even if that potential is yet unrealized. I like Google Docs and love Google Calendar…but I think I’m finding a better way.

Two weeks ago, a friend clued me in to Zoho.com.

Zoho is like Google Apps on steroids. You get online spreadsheets, presentations, database creators, file storage, and a host of things that I’m still figuring out, but allow me to do things like the online sign up form linked at the right to add you to our family eNewsletter list.  In face, just go there and sign up now.   Oh, and Zoho includes the Zoho word processor that rocks me like a hurricane.

The service is comprehensive and reliable, and surprisingly inviting upon first look.  If you think it's going to be a simple online word processor, think again.  Word processing is just the beginning of what you can do with Zoho.

The list of Zoho services you get with a registered account are impressive.  Beyond simple word processing, you can organize web conferences, share online documents, create online presentations, take notes, create spreadsheets, chat with other users, and even create your own web apps.  Each of these is full featured, and the interfaces most often resemble Microsoft Office products as closely as possible, and when they don't, they have a simple step-by-step interface that is really easy to use and understand.

  .. when I saw that they had changed their User Interface this morning, my initial impression of it was extremely favorable.  This is something that they have promised for quite a while and I believe that they delivered quite impressively.  I have been playing with it a bit tonight and have become even more impressed with the change.

I really like the almost Microsoft Ribbon feel to the U/I, I like the ribbon and I will like the Zoho Writer U/I. The ability to choose between drop down menus like Word 2003 and or ribbonesque like Word 2007 is a great combination!  It is very intuitive and doesn’t have a lot of distractions.

I needed to fill out a point of contact document for a video conference call I have with Pearl Harbor this Friday.  I saved the attachment from email, and then "imported" it into Zoho Writer.  After providing a bit of information, I was ready to send the file back to my contacts at Pearl. This time, instead of going through the "normal" process of saving a document and then "attaching" it to an email, I simply clicked "Share" and "Email Out" in Zoho Writer.  I entered a few email addresses, and off the edited document went as the body of the email right from my zoho mail account.  Nice.

I reviewed an old PowerPoint presentation for some information that I need for a presentation I will be doing for my Board of Education.  This time there was no uncomfortableness in what I needed to do.  I launched Zoho Show from the desktop links I created earlier in the day, and imported my presentation, in about a minute, I was moving through the information with ease… All in all it was a really easy day living in the cloud.

I expect that using Zoho will be easier than using Google Apps was because outside services can be added to the Zoho interface. I can't really switch to Zoho e-mail for all my work, so I'll still be using Gmail, though I'll try to limit it.

The first thing that I'll mention is how much more like an integrated application Zoho feels than Google does. I've been using Google Apps for over a year now, so I'm pretty used to it, but there's no real dashboard (iG doesn't make the cut). Zoho has a nice menu and even has the "desktop" which summarizes all your important information.

I was instructed to think of Zoho as Google-Docs on steroids!  Being a big fan of Google Docs, I was very keen to spend some time with Zoho, and I have to admit that the steroid comment was probably an accurate.

Zoho offers LOTS of great tools including apps for mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, file management, databases, invoicing, web conferencing and more!   Did I mention that Zoho is FREE?  You do need to create a login or you can use your existing Google account or your existing Yahoo account.  IMPORTANT: One thing I recently learned that you should also take note of (if you don’t already know), is that with most of these free tools such as Google Docs, when you create docs using their applications, they technically own those documents.  This was very startling to me.  However, Zoho’s Terms of Service pretty clearly state that you own the content you create.  This is a huge positive for users!  In fact, Google’s and Zoho’s Terms of Service are pretty much exact opposites of one another in this regard.  These are things you should think about when using tools like these.  Keep in mind however, that the real power in these sorts of tools is in the COLLABORATION opportunities they provide.  Multiple people, from multiple locations w/out needing any other software, can collaborate on a document or a project and be making almost real-time edits!  That’s powerful and exciting stuff!

Zoho is one of the best places to go for productivity, collaborations, and business applications. Like Google, they offer an email option. Zoho also offers planning, project manager, meeting and invoicing applications. It is growing pretty fast and integrates well with other applications and support systems like PayPal as well as in-home integration. It makes putting everything in one spot online simple.

This is so cool! Not only can you share documents, but there is no more upgrading to new software all the time. It's just THERE! I had a play with ZOHO Show. I have to do a power point presentation for one of my my classes at school, and I don't have MS PowerPoint on my computer (my Office package did not come with it). So I made a simple slide show, and I exported it in ppt format. It saved to my computer and opened fine with my PowerPoint viewer. Another neat thing was that I did not have to create a new account - I signed in with my Google account. No additional passwords to record in the trusty rolodex! Yea!

Embed Charts and Graphs in Web Pages My personal favorite is Zoho Sheet – any chart created inside Zoho Sheet can be published as an external image without exposing the full spreadsheet.

Both Zoho Sheet and Google Docs allow you to publish a range of cells from a spreadsheet into a web page but the embedding process in Zoho is less complicated - select a range and choose "Publish" from the contextual menu to embed that range into your web page.

Zoho App Suite Rocks, Google Docs Sucks.

This is realization that I got after using Google Docs for quite a bit of time and after using Zoho for short while.

First and painful issue is that GDocs sheets after download are not compatible with Excel and formulas (very simple ones) don’t work. This is major issue to me.

Secondly, after using Zoho for just a brief period of time, I get a feeling that I can really use it for work and not worry over files. It is really well integrated, I am enjoying using it quite a bit, and pain and struggle to use it are rarely present. While I had to make myself use GDocs, I don’t feel any effort to use Zoho and learning just a little about it I was able to add Facebook, Del.icio.us, Twitter and Blog to apps. How cool is that

Zoho.com is my choice for office productivity in “the cloud.” The folks at Zoho have created a HUGE suite of applications that well… all work! Writing, Spreadsheet, Presentations, wikis, project management, databases, an online NOTEBOOK and much more. - I have been following Zoho.com much of the year and have been very impressed with their suite of web products. Zoho is on the leading edge of cloud computing and has the most to offer small businesses. I moved the Firm's intranet to Zoho wiki last month. The security is simple and based on email domain. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive. The search feature is a must and something our previous intranet did not have. I now have other, non-techies that can help me maintain the site.
